GIGN-Intervention Group National Gendarmerie
 

GIGN je elitní jednotkou národního četnictva Francie.

Jednotka byla založena v Maisons - Alfort poblíž Paříže v listopadu 1973. Původně pojmenovaná jednotka ECRI ( Equipe Commando Régionale D'Intervention ) zahájila aktivní službu 1. března 1974 pod vedením poručíka Christiana Prouteaua. Svou první misi vykonala o deset dní později v Ecquevilly v Yvelines.

Další jednotka byla vytvořena současně v rámci výsadkové perutě " Mobile Gendarmerie" v Mont - De - Marsa ( GIGN IV ). Obě jednotky byly sloučeny pod velení Prouteau v roce 1976 a přijala označení GIGN. V roce 1982 došlo k přestěhování do Versailles - Satory. 

V roce 1984 se jednotka stala součástí větší organizace s názvem GSIGN ( Groupement de Sécurité Et D'Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale ) spolu s EPIGN ( Escadron Parachutiste D'Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale ), GSPR ( Groupe de Sécurité de la Présidence de la République ) a GISA ( Groupe D'Instruction et de Sécurité des Activités ).

K 1. září 2007 došlo k zásadní reorganizaci. GSIGN byl rozpuštěn a nahrazen novou jednotkou, také pojmenovanou GIGN. Všechny dřívější jednotky ( GIGN, EPIGN, GSPR a GISA ) se staly "silami" nového GIGN. Ta spadala pod přímou podřízenost Generálního Ředitele Četnictva. 

Od roku 2004 vznikají Regionální zásahové jednotky ( Antenne GIGN ) které jsou v případě krize pod operační pravomocí GIGN. 

1. srpna 2021 byly tyto Regionální jednotky plně integrovány do GIGN. Existuje 14 poboček, 7 ve Francii ( Toulouse, Orange, Dijon, Nantes, Reims, Tours, Caen) a 7 v zámořských oblastech ( Guadeloupe, Martinik, Guyana, La Reunion, Novouelle - Calédonie, Polynésie - Francaise, Maotte ).

 

GIGN - Elite unit of the National Gendarmerie of France.

This unit was founded in Maison - Alfort, near Paris in November of the year 1973. GIGN, originally named ECRI ( Équipe Commando Régionale D'Intervention ) entered active service on March 1st 1974 under the commandment of Christian Prouteau. Their first mission was accomplished ten days later in Ecquevilly, Yvelines. Another unit was created simultanously within the airborne squadron " Mobile Gendarmerie" in Mont- de - Marsan. Both units were merged under Prouteau's commandment in 1976.They took name GIGN. In 1982 there was a move to Versailles - Satory.

In 1984 GIGN, together with EPIGN ( Escadron Parachutiste D'Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale ), GSPR ( Groupe de Sécurité de la Présidence de la République ) and GISA ( Groupe D'Instruction et de Sécurité des Activités ) became a part of a bigger organization called GSIGN ( Groupement de Sécurité et D'Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale ). 

On September 1st. 2007, a major reorganization took place. GSIGN was dismissed and replaced by a new unit that happened to be called GIGN too. All the units ( GIGN, EPIGN, GSPR, GISA ) became "forces" of the new GIGN, that fell under the direct authority of the General Director of the Gendarmerie.

Since 2004, Regional Intervention units ( Antenne GIGN ) have been established which, in case of a crisis, are under operational authority of GIGN.

On August 1st. 2021, these Regional units ( Antenne GIGN ) were fully integrated into GIGN. There are 14 branches, 7 of them are in France ( Toulouse, Orange, Dijon, Nantes, Reims, Tours, Caen ), the other 7 are in overseas areas ( Guadeloupe, Martinik, Guyana, La Reunion, Nouvelle - Calédonie, Polynésie - Francaise, Maotte ).
